Under The Bridge Downtown
The worst part about his daughter’s death wasn’t the terror of seeing half a ton of concrete separate from a bridge and smash through their windshield. It wasn’t even the deafening crunch when the fragment pulped Jessie’s head and sent her blood splattering over his cheek. It was his initial reaction once the shock wore off.

Wow! Matthew and Gary start out messing with your heart then throw an unseen twist at the end. Truly excellent and messed up guys! Awesome reading and acting Matthew. Way beyond a straight narration. That’s the kind of material that gets podcasts like Variant Frequencies the attention they deserve.
I agree, what a great reading. It fits in perfectly with the astonishingly high quality of the fiction, reading and production of what for me is the best podcast on the net. As a Father of a son with Cerebral Palsy I wonder what was the inspiration for this story. I spent most of it seething at the inability/refusal of the Father to see past his daughter’s disability, so the ending was very satisfying.
After listening to it, I realized that towards the end, I *did* get offended. But I can’t deny that it is a powerful, chilling story, thanks to the intense way Matthew narrated it. This is one F-up story. I think I’ll go listen to something with happy puppy dogs and cute kittens to clear my head.
